Standing the winter wiper blades up on snowy days is to prevent the wipers from freezing on the front windshield.
The idea is that your wiper blade will remain relatively untouched by winter precipitation if left upright. Plus, if they’re not touching the vehicle, the wiper blades won’t freeze to your windshield and make it harder to clear the frozen precipitation when you need to leave – especially when you’re in a hurry.
Wiper blades are usually made of rubber, which hardens easily in cold weather, and if the wiper isn’t upright, it can freeze to the frozen glass, causing damage.
Therefore, in snowy or cold weather, putting the wipers up in advance can avoid this situation and extend the service life of the wipers.
In addition, if the wipers have frozen on the front windshield, you should first clear the snow on the glass, and then use the car’s warm air to de-ice the windshield to prevent damage caused by forced use of the wipers.
