How We Tested Wiper Blades – Knowledge

Mar 03, 2024

To properly test these wiper blades, we wanted to simulate different wet-weather conditions as accurately as possible. So, naturally, we used a garden hose! Since the garden hose at the Car and Driver garage has multiple settings, we were able to simulate light, medium, and torrential rain.

With our precipitation system all set up, we eagerly took control of the wipers to test their performance. We smoothly switched between intermittent, medium, and high speed with each level of simulated rainfall, running each setting for a full 30 seconds. After thoroughly testing each water level, we even experimented with running the wipers on a dry windshield for an additional 30 seconds to see if any strange noises or streaks appeared.

We then compiled our results based on ease of installation, water removal at each speed, squeaks, chatters, streaking, adapter quality, and, finally, price. Once the tests were complete, we felt satisfied that each wipers was tested and judged equally in every area of concern.
